Have you ever wondered why people study the Scriptures? Well, I can tell you that after years of delving into the Bible, I have come to the conclusion that it teaches truths that lead to the freedom of human beings.
When you take a step back and look at the scriptures with an unbiased mindset, it’s impossible not to see that the Bible contains information that can guide us towards true independence. It speaks of being free from distress, illness, scarcity, struggles, uncertainties, and imperfections of all kinds.
One example of this is when Jesus said that if anyone follows His teachings and keeps His word, they will never experience death. To me, that sounds like the ultimate promise of freedom! In the book of Job, it is stated that if someone hears God’s voice and learns how to be upright and in right standing with God, they will be shown mercy and find release from despair. Their flesh will even be renewed and become fresher and more tender than a child’s, returning them to the days of their youth!
Even King David spoke of the benefits of praising the Lord affectionately and gratefully, of being forgiven of iniquities, being healed of diseases and having his needs and desires met.
Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that these promises are not meant to be taken literally. They’re meant to be understood in the context of the scriptures, interpreted with knowledge acquired from studying them. By acquainting ourselves with God and His ways, we increase our chances of experiencing these promises.
So, what’s the best way to understand the messages conveyed in the scriptures and become familiar with God’s ways? The answer is simple – by studying the scriptures themselves! Only by doing so can we acquire the knowledge needed to experience the promises of deliverance from death and renewal of youth.
It’s important that we don’t just listen to the word, but follow the instructions. We need to be like the person who gazes intently into the flawless law that grants liberty and persists in doing so, not neglecting what has been heard but carrying it out. In doing so, we can be fortunate in our actions and experience the freedom promised in the scriptures.
I hope this has shed some light on why the scriptures are so important to me. The Bible is an incredible guidebook that can offer us the freedom we all seek in life.
